Regency Townhouse, Berkeley

Commissioned by: Private client
Guildprime were selected to carry out the total refurbishment of a Grade II listed Regency townhouse in Berkeley Square.

This project involved work of the following:
Externally, historic features including the front balcony and door surround were reinstated.
Taking inspiration from an 1890 photograph, the original front entrance pediment was reproduced.
The front facade was tuck pointed from top to bottom.
Inside the townhouse, the ornate plaster mouldings of the walls and ceilings were restored to their former glory with the removal of many years of paint.
Oak parquet floors were reinstated throughout.
A new passenger lift from basement to 5th floor was installed.

Challenges
Developing a strategy for the conservation, restoration and refurbishment of one of the last remaining Regency properties on Berkeley Square was crucial in planning out this project. A fundamental element of the project was obtaining English Heritage approval. Using reclaimed and existing materials, Guildprime craftsmen completed the reinstatement of many historic features. We also overcame many hurdles to finally enable a of a state-of-the-art passenger lift to be installed.

Outcome
Guildprime's refurbishment of the Regency Townhouse proved to be such a success, it was featured in The Royal Institute of British Architects brochure as: “A 21st Century office in a gloriously restored Regency interior.”
